Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple

The most interesting new thing we saw on our travels was the emerging statue at the Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple site. We had been on a quick trip to visit the Yankalilla Cemetery, and on the way back we couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw something that could grace a Lord of The Rings movie set.

It turned out to be a Buddhist Goddess.

The locals are excited because once the complex is finished they are expecting 20,000 visitors a year to Sellick’s Beach. It’s pity it was so gloomy, and I’m looking into the sun.

She arrived in 23 shipping containers in December

  1. Saw the story on the t.v. the other day. When the pagoda is finished it will be fantastic, I hope she likes her new home.

    1. I was pleased when Rob found that page showing the front view. Goddess of Mercy and hoped to bring peace and prosperity to South Australia. It’s a wonderful idea and it is certainly the best ‘big thing’ in Australia! (The scaffolding was still around the lower part on Monday when we saw it.)

  2. We could do with a Goddess of Mercy especially one overlooking the seas. Not a lot of mercy happening out there lately. And I agree with you on it being the best ‘Big’ thing. Sure beats the Big Prawn. (Although, I am a little bit partial to the Big Rocking Horse at Gumeracha.)
