White-faced Heron

Looking over my side fence, I spotted this white-faced heron across the lane. We’ve had lots of rain and water is puddled everywhere.

It began to spit rain but I didn’t want to miss this photo op. The heron flew away before I could get closer. The photos didn’t turn out too bad, considering I rushed and just used the auto setting on the Nikon D3000 (200mm lens). Edited in GIMP.

As soon as we get a lovely clear day, I want to go out to the lake. I haven’t been there since I got the bigger lens. Maybe I’ll get lucky and the crested grebe will be there. I had really hoped to see pelicans.

Thanks for looking at my white-faced heron. I’ve grown up calling it a blue crane.

I started blogging in an effort to keep the old brain cells alive. I'm writing a fantasy series, I take more MOOCs than I can handle, and am trying to get my Nikon D3000 off auto. I live in Victoria, Australia, with my husband and our dog, Vika.

Tell me what you're thinking.
